The artist with the creative name of Katika has chosen an absolutely unexpected style. She uses not watercolor, not pastel, not ink, but… wool threads as the material for “writing” her paintings. And instead of a brush, she uses an ordinary crochet hook. But no one would dare call her a knitter – her works are real paintings. And she is especially good at creating portraits out of yarn. World celebrities and ordinary people are on them amazingly realistic and easily recognized.
Crocheted portraits turned out to be very popular.
Katika is a contemporary artist and creator of the crochet art project Quarantine. During her six years as a crochet artist, she has explored the theme of human relationships.
When the world was shaken by the coronavirus pandemic and people began to sit at home on self-isolation, Katika felt an overwhelming need to work even harder. The artist opened something like a knitting contest for portraits, asking everyone to participate.
If you don’t look closely at the wool loops, the portrait is hard to distinguish from the original.

The girl received many requests for portraits, after which she had the idea to start the Quarantine project.
“I began to paint people who, despite the pandemic, have not lost their strength and are still full of hope, who want to memorialize themselves and their loved ones and thus support them,” she later explained. – In essence, these are the faces of all humanity, which I am confident will overcome any catastrophe.“
